» Our Approach

VIP Research and Evaluation clients receive our full attention. We devote time to learning as much as we can about each client prior to beginning their project, and often, prior to presenting a proposal. By the time we are awarded a project, we typically have a comprehensive understanding of their organization, including their mission, core values, culture, and even have a general understanding of their competition or similar organizations in their field.

» Not Your Ordinary Research Partner

Once we are selected, we are equipped to be more than a vendor; we are a solid research partner. In early meetings with clients, we gain an understanding of their goals and objectives for the research. With the background research we’ve conducted to understand the organization, we are in a position to help prioritize objectives and make the most of budgets and other resources involved with the project. Together, we then select the optimal methodology and draft pertinent research questions to meet the project’s goals.

» Maximizing Your Resources

This extensive research and partnership approach, paired with our expertise in rigorous quantitative and qualitative methodologies, leads to an appropriate research plan effective in achieving client goals and objectives. Our clients with limited resources especially appreciate our ability to prioritize the “must-have” versus the “nice-to-have” research objectives, and we love meeting client needs to their full satisfaction.

DR. MARTIN HILL
President

Dr. Martin (Marty) Hill has over thirty years of client-focused, strategic research experience across academic, governmental, and private sectors. A Ph.D. in sociology with a concentration in medical sociology and applied research and evaluation strengthens Marty’s talent for uncovering valuable insights.

» Experience

His experience includes a wide range of research services, including survey research, program evaluation, needs assessment, and consultation, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Treating clients as research partners, rather than customers simply placing an order, is an approach that clients appreciate and is a major reason why many continue to work with VIP Research and Evaluation time and time again. Collaborating throughout projects, from formulation of research questions to utilizing research findings in optimal ways, results in truly meaningful research with both parties gaining insight along the way.

» Professional Development

Marty’s first post-graduate research training was with the U.S. Department of Justice/Bureau of Prisons as a Research Analyst. There, he evaluated drug treatment programs throughout the federal prison system. For his contribution to the research in this area, he received the Special Act Award. Following this, Marty worked as a Senior Research Associate for the Kercher Center for Social Research at Western Michigan University (WMU). His work there included various social research projects, many of which focused on evaluating county drug courts and other community programs and initiatives.

Upon completion of his doctoral training at WMU, Marty ventured into the private sector where he worked in market research and public opinion research on both the client side (McDougal Littell, now Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) and the supplier side (Opinion Research Corporation). Most recently, Marty was the Director of the Carl Frost Center for Social Science Research at Hope College where he spearheaded numerous research projects for both for- and non-profit organizations.

In addition to all of this important work, one of the endeavors Marty is most proud of is his work with the Marjorie Kovler Center, an organization that takes a holistic approach to treatment and provides comprehensive medical, mental health, and social services for victims of torture. Marty evaluates their treatment program and is instrumental in the improvement of services and programs offered to survivors.

Marty’s unique combination of education and research experience, coupled with his approach to research and working with clients has enabled him to foster many lengthy and successful client relationships. He is also frequently invited to speak and present as an expert on research topics and best practices.
